AAU Introduces Six New Language Principles

Aalborg University aims to be an inclusive and attractive workplace where language barriers do not limit collaboration, well-being, knowledge sharing, or opportunities for professional and career development.

To support parallel language use at AAU, six new language principles are being introduced, translating the concept of parallel language use into concrete guidelines for everyday practice. The language principles were approved by the Executive Management in May 2025 and will be implemented gradually from September 2026.

The principles establish clear frameworks and expectations for the use of Danish and English in teaching, meetings, collaboration, administration and leadership, as well as in day-to-day communication.

The language principles will also strengthen employees’ language skills and support the professional and social integration of international staff at AAU. Through targeted language support, clear procedures for language choice in different contexts, and a strong focus on the role of leadership, the principles aim to foster an inclusive working environment where all employees have equal access to information, can participate actively in the community, and experience AAU as an inclusive international workplace.
